SOCIAL COMMITMENT
Social Commitment at Dürr Technik
Social responsibility has a long tradition at Dürr Technik
As a family-run business, we see it as our duty to share our company’s success with people who, for a variety of reasons, need support. Our social responsibility initiatives focus on the areas of youth, education and social welfare.
That is why we support the following projects:
2013 – date
Community school for orphans and the development of small-scale businesses in Ntaja, Malawi /
AfricaFollowing the successful establishment of a school in India (see 2008–2013), Dürr Technik has been working again since 2013 in collaboration with the aid organisation OM Deutschland e.V. to build a new school – this time in Malawi, one of the poorest regions in Africa.
Over the course of a five-year development cooperation project, a self-sufficient school for orphans was established in Ntaja. These children have very little access to education, as their foster parents are unable to afford to send them to school.
The school is called Chiyembekezo, which means ‘hope’ in Chichewa.
Project stages
- Building plot for the school
Two hectares of land were purchased to build a school with several classrooms, accommodation for the teachers, a playground, a football pitch and an orchard.
- Classrooms
Since September 2014, 34 children have been taught in two classrooms. Last year, there were 16 children. Now that the school has been completed, lessons are taking place in six classes with a total of 120 children.
- Water supply
A well has been drilled to supply water to the children and many people in the area.
- Additional support
The ‘Aid for the Third World’ working group of the Bietigheim-Bissingen local council supported the ‘Drinking Water Supply in Malawi’ project in 2014 with a donation of 1,000 EUR.
- Self-sufficiency
The development of the land and the planting of the orchard are in full swing. This is already the second year of planting maize, rice and bush peas. The children are looking forward to bananas and to the chicken farm helping to supplement their diet.
- Current
Now that the new school has opened, Dürr Technik is supporting the community of Ntaja in setting up small-scale businesses, so that long-term self-sufficiency can be achieved.
2013–2018
HNN Racing Team at Heilbronn University
Since 2013, Dürr Technik has been a sponsor of HNN Racing, the Formula Student team at Heilbronn University.
In the Formula Student competition, the participating students design, engineer and build a Formula racing car within a year, in accordance with the specified regulations. Once the car is complete, the individual teams meet at competitions around the world to present their racing cars to a panel of experts comprising judges from the automotive industry and Formula 1, and to compete against one another in various disciplines.
In this way, the participating students gain practical experience whilst still at university and are able to build on the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in their lectures. This applies not only to the areas of development, design and manufacturing, but also to teamwork, project management and marketing.
At the end of June 2015, the young team celebrated the rollout of the HNR15 racing car, nicknamed “Katy”. The first official race took place in Austria back in August. It gave the team the chance to gain some experience and get a taste of motorsport.
We wish the team every success for the next event in Italy and hope they continue to develop well over the coming season!

2008–2013
Establishment of an English-medium school in
India: Between 2008 and 2013, the ‘Good Shepherd School’ was established in Marripadu Village in the district of Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, southern India, in collaboration with OM Deutschland e.V., for children outside the caste system, known as Dalits.
Due to the existing social structure, Dalits have virtually no access to education; they are marginalised and disadvantaged. A good English-language school education gives the children and their families the prospect of a better life.
Dürr Technik was able to see for itself on site that the project had been successfully completed. Today, up to 450 children are taught at the school. As well as medical care, children and their families receive support in the form of vocational training, such as sewing courses. Furthermore, the provision of microloans helps them take their first steps towards a self-determined life with their own income.
2013
Youth Research
Supporting young talent is a priority for Dürr Technik. For their exciting ‘Model Roller Coaster’ project, a dedicated team of young model-makers was looking for a compressor capable of generating high-quality compressed air to accelerate the carriages and control the cylinders. The model-makers opted for a quiet, durable, oil-free Dürr Technik compressor unit of the KK70 Silent type. A diaphragm dryer ensures that no corrosion occurs on the components. The young inventors were delighted with the unit from Dürr Technik.
The model rollercoaster was awarded second place in the Technology category at the ‘Jugend forscht’ competition in Koblenz on 16 February 2013, and was also awarded the special prize for the best interdisciplinary project. We offer our warmest congratulations to the team!
2012–2014
Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Stuttgart
On the Master’s programme in Industrial Engineering at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Stuttgart, we support students by covering the full cost of tuition and examination fees for four semesters.
2012–2013
Sports sponsorship
As meeting places for children and young people, sports clubs play a vital role in the development of young people’s social skills. Dürr Technik provides financial support to help equip the FSV 08 Bietigheim-Bissingen football club.
2012
Reducing child mortality through training in hygiene measures in Afghanistan
The mortality rate among young children in Afghanistan is one of the highest in the world. 199 out of every 1,000 children do not reach the age of five. The main cause of this tragedy is a lack of hygiene in everyday life. Dürr Technik supports the WaSH programme – which stands for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – through which 300 children’s lives are saved in the project area alone.
2012
Hope and Education for Street Children in Sudan
Due to the domestic political situation, around 30,000 children are living on the streets in the Khartoum metropolitan area. The majority of them are boys whose sole focus in life is the struggle for bare survival. For years, a partner organisation has been providing full-time care for 153 street boys in four residential centres. The boys are provided with accommodation, meals and the opportunity to attend school or undertake vocational training. Dürr Technik has covered the full costs of the boys’ education.
