Gas generators for the laboratory

Gas generators are indispensable in modern laboratories, as they provide a reliable source of a wide variety of gases. They produce nitrogen, hydrogen or zero-air, thereby enabling a continuous supply of the required gas without the need for bottled gas. Gas generators are also extremely cost-effective. Instead of relying on increasingly expensive gas cylinders, laboratories can use gas generators to reduce their running costs whilst ensuring the availability of the gases they need. Furthermore, gas generators are easy to operate and space-saving, making them suitable for use even in small laboratories.

Gas generators also improve safety in the laboratory, as they minimise the risk of leaks or pressure drops that can occur when using gas cylinders. This is particularly important in laboratories where safety and precise analysis are top priorities.

For all laboratories requiring a continuous and safe gas source, gas generators offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for gas supply.

Chromalytic gas generators are the result of decades of experience and expertise in laboratory gas generation and incorporate the latest developments in gas production.

We offer innovative, durable products that produce gases such as nitrogen, zero-air, hydrogen and compressed air in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner.

ROI CALCULATOR

Take control of your budget Calculate your savings and payback period.

Rising energy costs, sustainability and availability are key issues these days. An alternative to gas cylinders is to use your own gas generators, which ensure your laboratory’s gas requirements are met at all times with more cost-effective gases produced sustainably on-site.

Chromalytic gas generators are designed to deliver maximum performance and efficiency whilst reducing costs and environmental impact.

To demonstrate the cost savings our equipment offers compared to gas cylinders, we have set up a return on investment (ROI) calculator.

The payback calculator compares the costs of gas cylinders with those of our gas generators and displays the payback period as well as the potential savings over a 5-year period in real time. Our ROI calculator thus supports you in the decision-making process regarding the purchase of a sustainable gas generator.

The quality of an oil-free compressor

Our high quality standards as a leading manufacturer are evident not only in the exceptional service life of our oil-free compressors. Even after many thousands of operating hours, an oil-free compressor from Dürr Technik continues to operate quietly and reliably – an advantage you can rely on.

In many applications, an oil-free compressor is essential for producing oil-free air, as oil vapours can damage valves, block nozzles, contaminate the air or distort measurement results. An oil-free compressor is therefore the ideal solution for pure and clean compressed air with minimal maintenance requirements.

Extensive product range – unique advantages

Dürr Technik’s oil-free compressors are based on tried-and-tested piston technology and are specifically designed to meet low to medium flow rate requirements. They are ideal when a compact design, precise specification and reliable quality are crucial. Many models are fitted with S1-rated motors and remain stable even during continuous operation, frequent start-stop cycles and varying load profiles. Oil-free vacuum pumps from Dürr Technik are developed for clearly defined applications: available with suction capacities ranging from 25 to 150 l/min, they offer constant suction performance in continuous operation (S1) whilst operating with low vibration and low noise levels.

Vapour recovery pumps from Dürr Technik ensure the precise and efficient recirculation of fuel vapours at petrol stations. Gas generators from Dürr Technik enable the safe on-site production of nitrogen, zero-air and hydrogen with a defined level of purity and a stable supply. They are designed for applications in which process reliability, continuous availability and cost-effective operation are crucial.

8 good reasons to use gas generators in the laboratory

Gas generators offer significant advantages over cylinder gas and are the first choice in the laboratory when it comes to supplying high-purity gases.

Questions and Answers

What is a gas generator and what is it used for in the laboratory?
A gas generator produces various gases, such as nitrogen, zero-air or hydrogen, directly on site. Depending on the device, the desired gas is obtained either from the ambient air or from deionised water – hygienically, on demand and without the need for bottled gas. In the laboratory, gas generators are used to supply instruments such as LC-MS, GC, spectrometers or analytical systems with reliable, high-purity gases.
What are the advantages of a gas generator over gas cylinders?
Gas generators supply a continuous flow of gas of consistent purity, without the need for transport or storage. They reduce running costs, improve safety in the laboratory (no high pressure) and are significantly more environmentally friendly due to lower CO₂ emissions. Despite a higher initial investment, they are more cost-effective in the long term due to lower energy and maintenance costs, as well as a longer service life.
What types of gas generators does Dürr Technik offer, and for which applications are they suitable?
Nitrogen generators: For LC-MS, sample evaporation and analytical applications (up to 99.9995% purity)
Zero-air generators: Clean, hydrocarbon-free air for GC or other analytical instruments
Hydrogen generators: For use as a burner or carrier gas for GC, as well as for detectors and instruments
Do I need a gas generator with a built-in compressor?
If a central compressed air supply is available, a model without a compressor will suffice. If there is no such supply, a generator with an integrated, oil-free compressor is the ideal all-in-one solution.
How energy-efficient and quiet are gas generators?
Gas generators only operate when required and therefore consume less energy than the logistics involved in using gas cylinders. Noise insulation reduces the sound pressure level to below 50 dB(A), which means they can be operated directly in the laboratory.
How are gas generators installed and maintained?
Installing a gas generator is simple and convenient thanks to its plug-and-play design: all you need is a power connection, an air supply where required, and (for hydrogen) a water connection. Maintenance of a gas generator is minimal – usually just an annual filter change and a functional check. Service packages further extend its service life.
Are Dürr Technik’s gas generators compatible with my analytical instruments?
Yes, Chromalytic gas generators are compatible with all standard laboratory instruments, e.g. from Agilent, Shimadzu, Sciex, Thermo Fisher, Bruker or PerkinElmer. The systems can be supplied pre-configured.
Are there any modular or portable gas generators?
Yes – Dürr Technik offers gas generators with a modular design and compact form factor for mobile applications. The generators are designed to be flexibly integrated into various laboratory environments – either as a stand-alone solution for self-sufficient operation or integrated into existing laboratory infrastructure – either under or on the laboratory bench. The models with an integrated compressor (e.g. the HF30A nitrogen generator) are particularly space-saving and, thanks to their swivel castors, can be moved around easily. For larger applications, several gas generators can be operated in parallel, stacked and combined – e.g. nitrogen and zero-air generators. Our experts will be happy to advise you.
